Long distance relationships are hard. Many of these do not work out in the long run, but it is possible to have a healthy long distance relationship despite the distance. There are things that can be done to have a better relationship. Have proper boundaries set. Know what you both like, when you are going to be together, what cheating is or isn't, and other issues that need to be worked out. It is important to have many of these things communicated to make the relationship easier. Treat them as if they are with you as much as possible. Do not excuse your actions or things that you do as the relationship not really being real. This will hurt the other person and not validate the relationship, making it difficult. Be patient with the other person. Distance can be hard and you need to have patience. This other person is not around you at all times. They will change a bit since life does change people. Keep an open mind and be willing to continue to learn about your partner. Know that you can't control the other person. Many insecurities happen when there is a long distance relationship. If the person is going to break up with you, there is nothing that you can do about it. Enjoy the time you have and stop worrying about him or her wanting someone else. Set up dates to talk with each other. Plan some activities that you can do together. While there is a distance, there are hundreds of possible things that two people can do together. Realize that there are good and bad times. This is a normal part of every time of relationship. It is expected. Be sure to work through your problems. Do not listen to those who say a long distance relationship cannot be done. If you enjoy it and it is healthy, keep at it.
